WCN Meetings

Respresentatives of local community groups and organisations meet once a quarter at venues around Westhoughton. These meetings are held in February, May, September and November. They last a little over two hours, and as well as having guests from outside bodies to talk about topics or initiatives that would be of interest, there is an 'information share' that gives all groups an opportunity to let others know what they are have recently been doing and what they are planning in future months. Whilst the meetings have a structure, they are quite informal, and the mid-meeting break is important for general catching-up and networking.

This coming together has created an awareness of and respect for the wide range of interests, communities served and people involved, and has seen friendships forming, and a number of collaborations over the years.

For the first few years the meetings were chaired by Harold Daniels. Chris Buckley took on chairing duties in for the year following Harold's death, and since 2017 there have been different chairs from amongst the groups for each meeting.

The minutes are a record of the meetings, but also provide a valuable insight into the Westhoughton community and are shared with the wider community via the website.

Topics covered as per meetings to date Agendas summarised here [PDF, 7 pages].

In recent times meetings have been impacted by Lockdowns and the availability of venues.
