WCN Community Fayre 2014 update: 20/8/14

Big Fun Day 2014 - Hope Church/Community Centre, Westhoughton Community Network Fayre and Westhoughton College join forces for a of fun, interest and entertainment 1 June 2014

With W.A.C.O's very successful, crowd-pulling 'It's-a-Knockout' taking a break this year, in its place an event of similar scope with something for all the family. Lead and managed by Hope Church (Hope Centre), involving Westhoughton College and Westhoughton Community Network (WCN), the event took place on Sunday, 1st June from 11am to 4pm, and was a great success! The sun shone and people came out to enjoy the entertainment, see the stalls and ride on the funfair.

The event began with a joint-faith Sunday Morning Service held at 10:00am before the main event started; there was an an address by Dave Bagley from Urban Outreach (Storehouse) who initiated the Foodbanks project across Bolton.

So much going on inside and outside, there was plenty to do and see both inside the college buildings and outside on the playing fields. The mini-football tournament - a pre-cursor to the excitement of the Brazil 2014 World Cup (Thurs 12 June to Sun 13 July) - saw winners from outside Westhoughton. There was a Carnival atmosphere as the Westhoughton community came out to enjoy a splendid day of fun and interest.

The first week in June is National Volunteers' Week, which celebrates the incredible and valuable contribution volunteers and voluntary groups make to their communities.
