Westhoughton Community Network

Newsletter - December 2011

Welcome to the new Newsletter for WCN. Attached are the minutes for the last WCN meeting held at WACO on 15th November – thanks to Lisa Bradley (Bolton at Home) for producing them. (Download).

The next meeting is planned for Wednesday, 15th February 2012, however the venue is to be confirmed as the John Holt Centre is unavailable, and we are trying to organise an alternative.

Provisionally booked is Mark Grundy from Bolton CVS who will be talking us through Bolton Council grant funding opportunities which are now run through them.

Please feel free to forward any agenda items for meetings.

We will be looking to confirm quarterly network meetings at venues around the town.

It is hoped that we can produce and circulate a newsletter once or twice a month as part of the 'information share' to WCN members, so if you have news or information you'd like to share, get in touch. (Deadline for next WCN Newsletter 14th January.)

Update

WCN CalendarThere is now a calendar available at the website, the idea being that groups can add events and a picture can emerge of what is going on in Westhoughton and will enhance the information share.

In order for events to be added, for the time being can information be sent to 'Events' for adding to the calendar - in the following format:

Event Name:

Day / Date / Time(s) (State if it is a repeating event and the frequency.)

Where it is taking place

Short Description

Contact Name / Number / Website / Email (if applicable and if you want this made public)

An input form will be added to the website in due course to try to make it more instant.

Other updates to the website will be appear over the next couple of weeks, including updates to group information from the survey and a review of community venues.

Terms of Reference

A reminder of the group's Terms of Reference agreed at the September meeting.

Westhoughton Community Network is a network of voluntary organisations and community groups based or offering a service in the Westhoughton area.

The purpose of the network is to provide an effective means of communication between groups and to give all groups a stronger voice.

This will be achieved via:

  • Information sharing
  • Collaboration and co-operation
  • Mutual support and advice
  • Building relationships

Membership is free and open to all voluntary and community groups in the Westhoughton area.

The network is facilitated by Bolton At Home Neighbourhood Management who provide administrative support and objective support for third sector participation.

The group made a good start in 2011 with a positive response, hopefully we can keep the momentum going.

In the meantime, thanks for your interest, contributions and participation.
